I am sure the answer is staring me in the face but I have a question. I have 2 exam rooms with PC and 17 inch monitors in them. I am a solo practice with only a receptionist so I am the only one seeing the patient. Before I bring the patient in I open the chart, then 9 times out of 10 I forward it to me and go to my office then forward back and finish the encounter. I have several problems that are happening a) the memo portion of the message box has the patients name and any other charts I have there waiting for me. b) if the schedule pops up for example at the end the list for the day is there with the names. My patients can see the monitor and can view this. Any suggestions?

Hit the windows button + L and it will lock the screen. Then all you have to do is unlock and continue on.

Alexis,

Hi. I have some suggestions and questions and an idea I tried (took me about an hour and a half, but I least I learned something). Hopefully, you can try it. What I did is probably about 1% of what the program I downloaded will do. I should have run Acronis True Image Home. I love Acronis, and it has a Try and Decide feature, where you set it, then try anything you want. If you like it, go with it, if not, you have done nothing to your system. Or, I should have used Virtual Machine. But, anyway, it's safe, and you can always uninstall it.

First, though I am not sure I understand what you are doing. Why do you open the chart in the room, then forward to yourself, then go to the office, then forward it back? Please explain, it may make it easier to help.

The most obvious way to fix things would be to add a fake provider so, you could toggle back and forth between schedules. His or hers, of course, would have nothing in it, so no HIPAA problems there. Just be sure to keep it in schedule mode most of the time.

Just as an FYI, I don't worry too much about HIPAA. I do worry about confidentiality (I separate them, because I feel like I want to maintain the latter, while the HIPAA thing just well...) But, you can only do so much. Also, where are the chairs compared with your computer? I set my desk and PC up so it is very difficult for them to see the computer, and I can look at them. Of course, you can't always do that.

Now, for this program. I googled it, and there are probably more out there that may be better, simpler, cheaper -- don't know. You can trial it, but it does cost $49.00 or so if you purchase. It sounds like if you like it, it would be well worth the price. As I played with it for quite some time, let me walk you through what I thought turned out best. But, there are a lot of other ways to do it. OK, here goes:

1. Go to http://actualtools.com/windowmanager/?ref=aim51_prg&s=m
and scroll down to download the trial version and install.
2. As soon as you run it, be prepared to see six more icons at the top right of your windows. It takes some getting used to, and there is probably a way to change that in preferences, but for now, just go with it.
3. Open Amazing Charts
4. On the left side, uncheck everything. At some point, the last check box on the bottom will be the Amazing Charts icon. Once, it is there, place a check in it. Unchecking it, will stop any actions you have applied.
5. In the right hand pane, select Target Window.
6. Everything should be checked. A check by Amazing Charts on the top line which is just the name of the selection, a check mark next to Windows Class (I have no idea what ThunderRT6FormDC is) Don't worry about it. Just check it. The next one is key. Make sure you check the one that says Window caption. It should say Amazing Charts in the line and Exact match's radio button should be selected. Finally, make sure you browse to: C:\Program Files\Amazing Charts\Amazing Charts.exe (This is NOT the one on your server. This is on your computer as you are making settings for your application.

OK, all you have done is simply tell the program to apply settings to your main window in Amazing Charts. That is all. Click on the Save icon at the top left of the toolbar. You can undo this by unchecking the Amazing Charts checkbox on the left side and clicking on Save.

OK, with me so far? If you wish, try it at home on your PC there.

7. Now for the settings. Again, there are tons. But, for now, we will use transparency. Click on the Transparency icon and uncheck EVERYTHING except the box which says, "Via titlebar double-click. Set the level to 90 or whatever. 90 works rather well. Click on save.
8. Your AC program will be fully visible as you have not double clicked on the Title bar at the top. So open up a chart.

So, you can run the program in the background, it can be minimized, maximized, whatever. But, even though you can still make out some things up close, it would be difficult to see from afar. And, anytime you wish, you can double click the title bar, and it is back.

Try it, it's pretty cool.

Another really cool thing. When you get to the end of the note and save it, you will have the Print Encounters / Send Letter window.

-If you go to the Actual Window Manager and click CTRL - A, it will add a new rule. Then choose Target Window and name the rule. I named it Print Encounters Size. Then if you find the Left Click Here icon and drag it with your mouse to the Title bar of the Print Encoutners window, it will automatically put all of your settings in so that the program will recognize it when it pops up. You can then choose your settings from there. I dragged the right hand bottom corner of the Print Encounters window so it was a lot larger so that when your note is finished and it pops up, it will cover everything especially your schedule or inbox. If you couple this with Transparency setting, you are pretty well off.

But, the cool thing about this post is, if you don't do the somewhat convoluted explanation above (much easier by the way if you just do the drag the left click icon thingy), you can simply do this one.

Just download and play with it. It's rather cool even for other programs.

Thank you so much for the help. I will give it a shot today. We actually designed the exam room desk with the chair sitting next to it so I face the computer and to the right of that is the patient.

Since I am it clinically I often forward it to my office for me to put in labs that I go do or to get a reference or consult. This has decreased dramatically though and I often finish the encounter in the room. Thanks again and I will let you hear! smile
