Looking for suggestions for an all-in-one computer I can hang on an exam room wall. Anybody happy with their system? Candidates include Dell Inspiron One 19, HP Touchsmart, etc. By the way, anybody successfully using touchscreens? Thanks, Dave

Dave,
I have a Touchsmart 600 (23 inch All in One) that I purchased a couple of months ago to replace my home desk top. I keep my AC Version 5 on it and it works fine. This unit is touchscreen, but I do not use that feature with AC.
I love the computer and will consider repacing my laptop clients in the office with these when the time comes. It comes with a wireless mouse and keyboard. I do not know how easy it would be to mount to a wall. It cost around $1,100.
Jim

Dave,
Apparently, the Touchsmart has a built in mount attachments and the the wall mounts are readily available in the $50 to $60 range.

Thanks Jim, The Touchsmart gets great reviews for speed and stability and the built-in camera would be handy for patient pictures. Dave

I have one touchsmart which I bought to play with - not sure if the touchscreen would be used much - if you watch you can get them for under 1,000 and even in the 800 dollar range as open box - One issue - wireless keyboard and mouse are not great - often loses sync, batteries go dead - wish they came with just regular mouse and keyboard.......might just switch.
Dell and Gateway are all making touchscreens with Windows 7, but most are HOME (don't get Bert going) and if you want to use on network with domain I think you will have to upgrade to PRO and may lose software which comes with computer. I think touch is fun to play with, but is not worth money. You can actually build your own all in one, nontouch with small ASUS XP machines that bolt onto back of LCD flat screen -

Just went to tigerdirect.com and typed in 'all in one pc' and got lots of hits - some touch, nontouch. Lots of brands - I use 400 dollar Averatec with 18" screens and can mount on wall with XP home, but for under 1,000 you can get lots of different machines. Take a look.
P.S. I have no financial incentive for Tigerdirect other than I send lots of my money to them.

I know that the touchsmart I bought is really cool and when I have showed a few patients they thought the touchscreen was cool, but it really wasn't any faster than using a mouse except when the mouse had unsynced due to a low battery, etc.
I do find it useful to play bejeweled and super farkle...but I digress.

I love my HP Touchsmart600, I bought 2, and use the touch features in a little "cubby hole" outside the pt rooms, 1 cubby per 2 exam rooms, where I type, touch and print Rx's. This arrangement works great, and the screen is big and clear and very responsive. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate w/o problems.
