What are the options for faxing directly to pharmacies? I don't see a fax option in the Rx writing area.
Thanks

Buy a fax printer - set it up as printer and share. Then you just print to fax and it auto sends. You can use this for some scheduled items, but you need to sign up for e prescribing, once it works it is great.

You can also do it with a fax modem and simply print to fax.

Thanks. My server that i will be putting AC on has a fax modem.

My worry about ePrescribing is that not all of my local pharmacies read their email in a timely manner. Maybe this is better now that eRx has been around for a while.

I have had almost no problems with e prescribing. My understanding is that if they cannot electronically send it, it defaults to fax.

I am not completely sure how the ePrescribing works on the pharmacy side. I would have to ask what of our favorite pharmacies --> the ones that still like me.

But, I don't think it goes to email. I think it just shows up right on their PC, and they can just pull up the patients file or chart. It does fax if they don't work with it. I just hope they get some system where it sends back a receive notice. I get really tired of pharmacies saying they didn't get the fax.

I was using the term email a bit loosely. I have heard that pharmacies don't check their computers often but as they get a lot of faxes those are checked regularly. It probably depends upon how many eRx's a pharmacy is used to getting.

More and more pharmacies are used to getting ERx's. I rarely run into a problem. My pharmacy told me that a small icon blinks when they have e scrips waiting - ironically it does not actually help them a lot except when they send an electronic refill request. If I send Amoxicillin 500 mg - 1 cap 3 times per day x 10 days it does not automatically match an NDC for the med as there may be 50 different suppliers and the instructions are free text so they still have to enter the code for 1 po tid x 10 (which may be something like 1ptx10 - I don't really know these, but my pharmacist says they are cryptic codes he has to enter to generate the instructions on the bottle).

When they electronically send a scrip and I hit refill x 3 it does seem to really help their workflow. Unfortunately I have them trained not to do this as the workflow on my end is not good for this and AC is still working on it.
