Hellow fellow AC Users

The AC user board is one of the best user boards for a product such as an EMR there is. It's a great community to share thoughts, ideas, constructive criticisms and compliments about AC. A lot of posts are just opinions or users having fun. But a good many of the posts are users asking other users how to use certain things in AC or asking for help with IT such as networking and computers.

Most of the time when AC users try to help answer the question of another user, there is an ongoing dialog back and forth until generally the question is answered. And, most of the time the asker lets everyone know if the problem were solved. This is very helpful, because one, those helping are curious as to the answer, but more importantly, when others read the thread, they get the answer.

But, there are times when a question receives comments from users who are trying to help the asker and spend quite a bit of time in doing so. Then after some time there are no more posts from the asker, and the question just languishes and finally dies with no conclusion.

Here are just a few tips that may or may not help you get your question answered more readily.

1. Try to give your complete layout of your system network. What OS, computers, topography, etc.
2. Stay involved in the question. Try to answer what the users as asking.
3. Let us know what steps you tried.
4. And, most importantly, let us know the outcome.

I hope this is helpful.

Experts-Exchange is a wonderful web-based computer support system. It is not free however and users are required to award points to people who supply answers to the questions. Bert uses Experts-Exchange quite frequently to help me w/ computer questions, and he even BOUGHT me a subscription a couple of years ago. Furthermore, Bert often researches E-E for members of the AC User Board.

I think where Bert is coming from is a very practical one and a personal one. It's very helpful for other members of the User Board to see the threads and learn from them. It's impossible to know if a particular solution worked without feedback however. Plus it's simply common courtesy to reply to the one who took time to answer the question. Maybe even give a simple "thank you." We are all adults, does this really need to be said? Of course we are all busy and most probably don't have time to give such feedback.

Bert suggested a few guidelines:

I would add only one, try not to hijack another users thread. I'm guilty of it too, so I'm not one to judge.

So please everyone, keep in mind these suggestions/guidelines. It's the best way to be helpful to your colleagues and fellow AC users, give your helper(s) a little feedback.

Happy AC'ing!
