I am using a separate database (separate from my office practice) on an HP laptop for my nursing home patients (35). The laptop is dying, and I want to move the nursing home data to a new laptop. This dying laptop is using AC version 3.6. I talked with Guardian Support, and they suggested upgrading the laptop to at least 3.7, and then synching to my office computer (newest version AC), but the laptop just won't download the newer version (too sick). Any suggestions?

Well, first, you could easily use any 3.7 installer, you must have used one for the good computer and move it to the laptop. Or you could download it to a good computer and move it with a flash drive or over the network to the laptop. And, then do what Guardian said. Just sync to the database on the other.

Actually, if you have a brand new install with a brand new AmazingCharts.mdb database, then just copy and paste the AmazingCharts.mdb database from the good machine into the laptop. No need to sync at that point.

But, SECOND, if the laptop is sooooo bad that you can't even download a file (which I never seen a computer that bad - we are talking a browser connection to the AC server), then I wouldn't waste your time putting anything on it. I would take advantage of the Memorial Day sales, purchase a new laptop, and find the closest dumpster to throw the old one into. smile

After you take a hammer and whack the silicon out of the old laptop's hard drive so no one pilfers it and gets you into a heap o' HIPPA trouble.

Have you run a virus/malware check yet on this computer? One of the most common causes of internet connection problems is viruses and other malware.

Also, run hijackthis.exe, a free software to see what is running in the background (which can include viruses). Post the results of the scan get here...
