Isn't
it worth $250/year to avoid feeling like the guy pictured (he
just lost all his patient and practice data when his computer
died)?
While
it is hopefully a rare occurrence to lose all your data, if you
have ever experienced a hard-drive crash or an office disaster,
you will understand the need for a "just-in-case" backup
service. (1% of practices will experience a disaster like this
each year.) Fire, vandalism, lightning strikes, hurricanes and
other natural disasters happen infrequently, but they do happen.
With our Amazing Charts Backup Service, you at least know all
your precious medical records are encrypted and safe, far away
from your physical location.
How
It Works
Amazing
Charts OffSite Backup service allows you to upload your crucial
Amazing Charts databases each night to our data center for archiving
and safe keeping. Your Amazing Charts databases, patient information,
templates, schedules, and ICD/CPT code information is first automatically
encrypted on your own computer, then uploaded and stored on our
secure servers. (Click
here to watch a demo of the process.)
Security
Obviously security is of the utmost importance given that your data
contains patient-identifiable health information. The first layer
of security occurs on your computer, before the connection to our
archiving servers occur. When you run OffSite Backup your Amazing
Charts databases are encrypted using a 256-bit cipher algorithm.
(This is more encrypted than bank transactions online!) It has been
calculated that breaking this level of encryption would take a hacker
32 trillion years to crack!
Your
encrypted patient (and practice) data is then uploaded in a HIPAA-compliant
manner across a secured 128-bit encrypted SSL internet connection
(the type of connections that banks use for all their electronic
transactions). Your data is then stored under tight security in
our data center in San Antonio, Texas. San Antonio is an ideal location
for your mission-critical data because of the absence of natural
disasters, such as hurricanes and tornadoes, and is also on the
most seismically stable soil in the United States. Inside the data
center, our secure linux servers are physically isolated from everyone
but level three technicians.
Power
systems in the data centers are designed to run uninterrupted even
in the unlikely event of a total power outage. All servers are fed
with conditioned UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) power that will
run if utility power fails. The UPS power subsystem is N+1 redundant
with instantaneous failover in case the primary UPS fails, and while
we don't know exactly what this means, it certainly sounds pretty
cool. In the event of an extended power outage, an on-site diesel
generator can run indefinitely. The generator is regularly tested
to ensure that it will continue to function in the event of an emergency.
An advanced fire-suppression system is in place to prevent any fire
from spreading - in the unlikely event that one could start - as
all cables to the servers and routing equipment are securely tied
down, and cable racks suspended from the ceiling provide dual routes
for all cables.
And
just to be extra cautious, each night while you sleep, we backup
your encrypted data from our servers onto magnetic tapes and these
tapes get rotated (under lock and key, of course) off the San Antonio
premises to a second secured data storage center at another location.
This ensures we have all your patient and practice data safely archived
and locked up in two distinct locations away from your office. This
ensures your medical records and practice data are available for
you in the event of catastrophe.
The
Price
Because
we do this for a number of practices automatically, the cost to
each practice for this "insurance" is quite low. We also
keep the price low to encourage our users to just do
it. For $250/year you can have this backup of all
your precious patient and practice data, and includes no-cost replacement
of your Amazing Charts software in the event your systems are lost.
